Rules at Boys State

  • Common sense rule
    • If you question whether something should be done, the chances are it shouldn’t. You can always ask a GRAY OR BLUE SHIRT!
  • Respect authority
    • Anyone wearing a gray, blue, or red shirt should be treated with the same respect and acknowledged authority as your own counselors. Listen to them … they are here to make this program work for you.
  • Respect people
    1. Listen and be courteous to all speakers. Some of the finest minds in the state and national government will be here to visit you. 
    2. Also, on the Boys State staff are men of recognized courage, dedication, and ability. 
    3. Respect your fellow delegates, their background, and their opinions, even those differing from your own
  • Respect property
    • Keep living spaces, dining spaces, campus grounds, classrooms clean. If you see trash that is not yours, pick it up.
  • Your uniform is the Boys State t-shirt, trousers (jeans or slacks), closed toe shoes (no sandals), and name badge. These will be worn at all times (shirt tucked in trousers) except during recreation and while on the dorm floor. Sandals are permitted only during recreation. Authorized caps are always removed indoors except for the Legion and SAL caps which are considered part of a uniform.
  • “Lights out” means EVERYONE goes to bed and to sleep. The schedule for Boys State is hectic and demands a great deal from each delegate and staff member. To get the maximum advantage from the program, everyone needs to be rested. Late hours and early mornings will take their toll.
  • The following infractions will result in immediate dismissal from the Boys State program:
    1. Leaving campus without written permission from the director or official designee
    2. Smoking, drug, or alcohol use including any substance containing tetrahydrocannabinol, synthetic or otherwise. “Medical” use is not excluded from this rule
    3. Possession of firearms, fireworks, drugs, liquor, or gambling materials.
    4. Fireworks use
    5. Any theft or attempted theft of any kind
    6. Entering a vehicle of any kind without express permission of an Oklahoma Boys State staff member
